Horror comedy is my favorite. It’s a unique genre that can make you laugh and scream at the same time, and such unexpectedness is what I love about this genre. One scene can make you feel extreme adrenaline, and the very next scene can calm you down with an outburst of laughter.
Also, it’s extremely difficult to get horror comedy media right because there’s a delicate balance to maintain between the two polar opposite emotions.
Anyway, I’ve combined my TV with one of the high-speed internet bundles that include tens of entertainment channels. I’ve watched some amazing horror comedies, and here, I’ll share them with you. Also, if you’re not into this genre, these movies might be a good starting point.
So, without further ado, let’s get started.
What We Do in the Shadows
We’ve normally seen vampires hunting down humans and drinking their blood like it’s nectar. However, What We Do in the Shadows is going to change your perception of them.
The story revolves around the three vampire friends, Viago, Deacon, and Vladislav. They live in a shared apartment. And, just like roommates who argue over house chores and petty things, you’ll see them fight, too.
Last but not least, there are a lot of light-hearted moments in this show, but don’t forget that it’s a horror comedy. So, do expect some bloody and gory scenes in between those relaxing moments.
Zombieland
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that my love for horror comedy started after watching this movie. The movie starts with a typical storyline where everyone except a few people become infected by a zombie virus.
Among those people is a college student, Columbus, who wants to get back to his parents in Ohio. He befriends a cocky stranger, Tallahassee, on this journey. However, the real twists and turns start when two sisters, who are con artists by profession, join them on this journey.
For the most part, you’ll see them running, smashing, and helping each other against the zombies. That said, Columbus and Wichita, the elder sister, get closer and closer to each other on this journey.
So, you can expect a little love angle and romance from Zombieland as well.
Hotel Transylvania
Though I have watched multiple animated horror comedies, Hotel Transylvania tops them all. The movie is based on Count Dracula, a renowned vampire, who runs a hotel called Transylvania.
This hotel is a ‘human-free’ zone, and monsters from all over the world come to this place to get a break from the humans. That said, Count Dracula invites famous vampires to his daughter’s birthday, who, mind you, is getting 118 years old.
However, he finds himself in a dilemma when a human stranger finds his way to this hotel. To make things worse, the Count’s daughter starts falling for this stranger, which he also has to prevent somehow.
All in all, this is a fun movie to watch, especially for those people who want to see some light-hearted horror with more focus on comedy.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
It is likely the oldest horror comedy movie on this list. Killer Klowns From Outer Space was released way back in 1988 and is still considered one of the most entertaining movies of this genre.
The movie starts when a group of aliens arrives on Earth. And, coincidentally, they happen to look like an exact copy of clowns. And, though these ‘klowns’ look like clowns, they come equipped with exciting weapons.
Though a bit disturbing, you’ll be entertained and likely laugh out loud when these klowns turn people into cotton-candy-like cocoons.
Also, if you’re wondering where you would watch an almost 27-year-old movie, then fret not! Killer Klowns From Outer Space is available on Fandango at Home, and you can rent this movie at an affordable price.
So, these are the four horror comedies that will frighten you a bit, but they’ll also make you laugh.
Also, as I said above, these are just the perfect starters for anyone who’s getting into the horror comedy genre. Before I wind up, do you have any horror comedy in mind? If yes, then do mention it in the comments section.
Happy watching!
